What boiler installation in South Wales really costs

Ask three firms for a boiler installation price in South Wales and you can get three numbers that are a long way apart. Usually that is not because one firm is cheap and another is greedy. It is because they are not pricing the same job. This guide sets out our figure, what sits inside it, and what to check on any quote.

The starting figure

Every new boiler we fit starts from £1,900, fully fitted with VAT. That is the figure whether you are in Bridgend, Maesteg, Cowbridge or Port Talbot. The final price depends on which of our four boilers you choose (Baxi 800, Ideal Logic Max, Vaillant ecoFIT pure or Worcester 8000) and on anything your home needs beyond a straight swap.

What is inside the price

• The new boiler, with its manufacturer warranty
• The labour, plus taking away and disposing of the old boiler
• A standard flue, standard fittings and the controls you already have
• A system flush, so the new boiler starts on clean water
• A magnetic filter, which most manufacturers want for the full warranty
• Warranty registration on the day, your Gas Safe certificate and VAT

What can add to it

Some homes need more than a swap. These cost extra, and you are told about them before you book:

• Moving the boiler. A new flue position and new pipe runs, usually a second day.
• Taking out a back boiler. Fireplace work and a rethink of the whole system.
• Going from a system or regular boiler to a combi. The cylinder and tanks come out and there is repiping to do.
• Pipework upgrades. Some older gas pipes are fine for the old boiler and too small for the new one.
• A powerflush. Only when the system is genuinely dirty, never as a default add-on.
• Access work. Scaffolding where a flue cannot be reached safely.

Three things to check on any quote

1. Is the number all-in? Some quotes are boiler and labour only, with the flush, filter and VAT added later. Compare the full fitted figure.
2. Does it mention flushing the system and fitting a filter? A new boiler on a dirty system is the most common reason for an early failure and a refused warranty claim.
3. Who registers the warranty, and when? A manufacturer warranty only exists once it is registered. We do it on the day.
